History 06/05/2008 Ibiza is such an incredible place for archaeology. Every major Mediterranean civilisation seems to have left its mark here. The Phoenicians founded it, the Carthaginians developed it into one of the most important trading centres in the ancient world, the Romans conquered it before in turn being thrown out by the Vandals, the Byzantines had a turn in charge then the Moors took over before finally the Catalans invaded in the 12th Century.
