Meet and greet
02/05/2008

I guess I should tell you about myself. My name is Elisabeth Perl. I'm from all over the place - I was born in Sweden but moved to live with relatives in London when I was very young. Since then I've lived all over, from the US to Scandinavia to Croatia to Scotland. My two big loves are archaeology and dance music. I studied Historical Archaeology at university and now I've just started my first job - in the best place in the world to combine the two. Ibiza! Now all I have to do is carefully tread the line between outright partying and work and this could just be the summer of my life!

Orientation
03/05/2008

I've spent the last couple of days just wandering around Ibiza Town. It feels like the last hour before a big party - all the bars are repainting their signs and getting everything ready, the billboards are being updated with this year's parties and the whole place is bracing itself for a Summer invasion. I feel like a scout for an invading army.

Spotted a lizard today. The landlady says they're good to have around because they eat insects. Am meeting James tomorrow, the guy from the job interview in London, and he's going to show me around the place. Be good to talk to someone aside from this blog (although I do love you, blog) and the lizards!

Good points about my new home
1) It's in Ibiza!
2) Possibly best view in world
3) Just big enough to swing cat
4) Don't think anyone lives underneath so no one to get annoyed with my clumping around on the bare floor or playing music (if my decks arrive in one piece - I packed them so carefully!)
5) Large random painting on wall not unattractive
6) Free with job
7) Did I mention it's in Ibiza?

Bad points
1) Big pile of bricks in corner
2) Found an old newspaper from 1938 under the bed which was a bit creepy and also suggests a rather lax cleaning regime on the part of the previous owner
3) Landlady very possibly lost her marbles around that time

On the Beach

I see a hole, I jump in it - what can I say?

James is going to be my supervisor at the Institute so it's cool that we get on well. He says he's not much of a clubber, though he knows where everything is.

First day at work
05/05/2008

First day at work! My new employers are the Society For The Preservation of Ancient Ibiza. Bit of a mouthful, I know. Looks like my job will involve many trips to the Museum in dalt Villa, a lot of cataloguing old books and records and online archives. It looks like they are primarily interested in pre-Roman times, so that'll suit me perfectly. James is also keen to get me doing some PR work, whatever that means - hopefully not 'get blonde girl to give out flyers on street'.

Here's their website: http://www.sociedadibiza.com/
